If the gym is the part of getting fit you dread, a home personal trainer in Liverpool takes it out of the picture. Instead of travelling across town, queuing for equipment and showering in a changing room, your trainer comes to your house and the session happens in your living room, garden or spare room. This guide explains how home personal training works with Reshape Infinity Fitness, who it suits, the areas we cover, what it costs and what to sort out before your first session.
How home personal training works
Home personal training is one-to-one coaching, the same as you would get in a gym, delivered where you live. Your trainer arrives at the agreed time, takes you through a warm-up, the main workout and a cool-down, and leaves you with a plan for the days between sessions.
The difference is the setting. A gym has racks of equipment; a home session is built around the space you have and the kit available. That changes the exercises, not the quality of the coaching. Bodyweight movements, carefully chosen progressions and good technique can challenge beginners and experienced exercisers alike, and the programme moves on as you get stronger.
Before booking, ask what equipment the session will use and how much floor space you need, so you can clear the room in advance.
Who home sessions suit best
From what our clients tell us, home sessions work especially well for three groups of people:
People who feel anxious about big gyms. Busy gyms can feel intimidating, especially if you are just starting out or returning after a long break. Training at home removes the audience while you learn.
People with a busy schedule. There is no travelling to and from a gym, so a session fits into a lunch break, the time after the school run or the start of the evening.
People who value their own space. Once the session is finished you can use your own shower instead of a shared changing room, and you have not had to go anywhere.
Home training also suits people who have tried following workouts on their own and want someone to check their form, set the right level of challenge and keep them accountable.
Areas we cover
We visit clients across Liverpool and north Merseyside, including Aigburth, Aintree, Anfield, Blundellsands, Bootle, Crosby, Edge Hill, Everton, Fairfield, Fazakerley, Huyton, Kirkby, Kirkdale, Litherland, Liverpool City Centre, Maghull, Norris Green, Old Swan, Seaforth, Sefton, Sefton Park, Vauxhall, Walton, Waterloo and West Derby. If you live nearby but outside these areas, get in touch and ask.
What it costs
A home visit costs £75 per session, or £80 for two people training together, according to our pricing on our personal training page. Training as a pair is one of the simplest ways to bring the cost per person down, and it gives you someone to keep you on track between sessions.
How often should you train?
The NHS recommends that adults do some type of physical activity every day, aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week, and do strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups on at least two days a week (NHS physical activity guidelines).
Your personal training sessions do not need to cover all of that on their own. You might book one or two sessions a week and do walking, cycling or a short home routine on the other days. Your trainer can set that routine for you, so the time between sessions keeps the progress going. If you are unsure how many sessions to book, our guide on how often you should see a personal trainer goes into more detail.
Training with a partner or friend at home
If someone you live with also wants to get fitter, a shared home session can work well. You warm up together, work through the same session with exercises adjusted to each of you, and keep each other motivated in between. Knowing someone else is relying on you can make it harder to skip a session.
Getting your space ready
You do not need a home gym, but a little preparation helps:
Clear a space big enough to lie down and stretch your arms out in every direction.
Choose the floor. A carpet or a mat is more comfortable for floor work; make sure nothing can slip.
Have water and a towel ready so you are not hunting for them halfway through.
Tell your household when the session is, so you are not interrupted.
Mention any injuries or health conditions before your first session. If you have a medical condition, it is sensible to speak to your GP before starting a new exercise programme.
Getting started
The first step is a conversation about your goals, your routine and anything that has held you back before. From there your trainer can suggest how often to train and what the first few weeks will look like. You can get in touch through our contact page to ask about availability in your area.
